Be Careful With Cheap Data Recovery

There is no shortage of companies on the internet promising you cheap data recovery. While some of these companies certainly are qualified and good at what they do, sometimes there is a fine line between getting a good deal and getting ripped off. Make sure when you choose a cheap data recovery service that it will not end up costing you more in the long run.

Look at it this way, data recovery is like major surgery for your computer. Choosing the cheapest doctor is not always the best path when it comes to heart surgery. When it comes to recovering a database, your life may not be at stake, but your business could be. Many companies that proclaim cheap data recovery services use "bait and switch" tactics. They will lure you in with unreasonably low quotes, just to get you to buy their service. Then when you have sent them your hard drive you are told that the damage was much more serious and you will have to pay more than double the price they originally quoted you.

This does not mean you need to send your drive to the most expensive companies either. Many leading data recovery companies are certainly overpriced, and why cheap data recovery is so appealing. "Cheap" services which may be misleading or scams are generally ones which quote prices less than $350. Sadly, it is nearly impossible for any company to recover data for less than $350. If all you need is a software solution to recover your data (in that the drive is not actually damaged) then you will not need one of these services. You will want simple data recovery software which can be bought in a multitude of places. To recover physically damaged drives though, it is not going to be cheap or easy.

The reason for this is not only the time and skill that is involved with this kind of maintenance, but also the equipment, and even the parts. In nearly all cases when a hard drive has physically failed, specific parts are needed in order to complete the recovery. This is not just a matter of finding the same model drive as you will need to know it's country of origin and a great deal of other specifications. Unless you have every possible drive variation in stock (do not bet on this happening), this translates into parts outsourcing. This essentially makes cheap data recovery impossible if by cheap you mean less than $350, but do not let this discourage you from shopping around quotes from honest companies.
